There appears to be a possibility that he was a Priest of the Old believers like his son, Vasil. It is known that the family resided on a minor tributary of the Kama River in the Perm Region of Russia. In Evlampia's notes she mentioned that the Belonogoff family came from "beyond the Kama River". The origins of the family will probably never be known. We can surmise about the possible origins of the family, which leads to two possible roots. Firstly, that the family were exiled to the Perm region by the Tsarist Government because of the family's religious beliefs, Old Believers were not recognised and outlawed by the Tsarist Government. . It is known that the Government did remove "undesirables", both political and religion, to the region, but no positive documentation has yet to be found. Secondly, it is possible that the family were natives of the area from an early age, being from the Finno-Ugric tribes [Permyaks], who had settled in the area many centuries area, making up a majority of the local population along the Kama River, especially in the middle and upper are. These Komi tribes had taken up the "old religion", which had slightly changed some aspects to accommodate some of the locals old beliefs, which were laced with Shamanistis traditions of their pre-Christian heritage . These tribes are sometimes referred to as "coming beyond the Kama River". [The Permyaks were first mentioned by traders from Novgorod who entered the Ural Mountains to collect furs and taxes in 1187. The first Permyaks were first baptised into the Old Russian Orthodox Church in 1463. More blond and Nordic than the local Russians, they were subjected to prejudice and a harsh colonial regime]. Evlampia recall that it had been strongly stated that "The Belonogoff Family were Russians from Russia] Gregori
