Vera Withall has spent much of the past century helping others — so it was only fitting that she was the one who was spoiled on her 100th birthday. Mrs Withall celebrated with bowling friends and her family, which includes five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs Withall was heavily involved with Campbelltown sporting clubs, school and community groups after she married Jack Blinman and they raised three children here. The Frank Whiddon Masonic Homes resident worked at Glenfield's Downes General Store and did washing for the Glenfield Army Camp during World War II. She was made a life member of the Ingleburn Bowling Club and a bowling green at the club was named after her.
Mrs Withall met her second husband Bert Withall, whom she married in 1976, at a bowling tournament.
Her son Victor Blinman said his mother liked to be involved in the community.
"Mum's one of those ladies who was fairly prominent in what she did. When she joined a club or association she never wanted to stay in the background, she always had lots of ideas."
